Pinkberry - Long Beach, CA (Downtown)

Posted on Wednesday 4 April 2007

We’ve been waiting for this particular Pinkberry to finish for a while now. When Pinkberry finally posted it on their site, we officially knew that this store was open.

Location, Location, Location..
First things, this newest addition to the Pinkberry family is located at:

112 E. Broadway
Long Beach, CA 90802
562.432.4929
H: 11AM to 11PM

Its located on Broadway (one way street) between Pine Avenue and Long Beach Blvd. The store is located right next door to a pizza joint and is neighbored to the right by a club. Were pretty sure it will be tough to get to on the weekends when the club is open so just beware.

Parking
We went to this Pinkberry on a Tuesday evening so parking was readily available. Most of the parking in downtown Long Beach is metered so beware to observe the enforcement times. There are also many lots you can pay and park at as well. In any case, if your going down there on a weekend be patient. Its gonna be tough to find parking, not to mention the traffic that will be increased as well. If your willing to walk, parking a few blocks away and taking a stroll will be easier.

Store front
Typical of all Pinkberry’s is the bright and well lit store. This Pinkberry is rather large, with plenty of seating area inside to enjoy your Froyo. Unlike the Melrose/La Brea location which is tiny. As you can see from the picture below (taken @ 6PM), there were hardly any customers in there. We didn’t get our froyo during this time, which we should have. But if your not one for lines and crowds the early dinner time would be an excellent time.

Heres a shot from across the street when we came back to actually get some Froyo.

Ordering
We got to the store around 9PM, and at this time the store was rather busy. Half the seating in the store was taken up and there were at least 10 of us in line waiting to order. Since the store was still new, all the staff were getting there feet wet with the ordering system and actually making the Froyo. After a computer glitch and ten minutes of waiting in line we finally ordered. I got the Medium Original with rice cake, mango, and strawberry ($4.95+tax). The person making my Froyo was not even aware that rice cake was one of the toppings.
In any case, the Froyo was made quickly and within 2 minutes of ordering it at the register.

The Froyo
Pinkberry is known for their tart and smooth yogurt. My yogurt was not as tart as I was used to with the other Pinkberry’s I had tasted. It could be that the store is new and the recipe has not been refined to precision yet. I was delighted none the less because the orignal tartness was a little tart for me anyway. The consistency of the yogurt was very smooth, and not icy at all. The spoon would cut right into the yogurt with the smoothness of room temperature butter. I was a little short changed on my helping of rice cake, since the guy was new I wasn’t to bothered by it. The froyo was excellent though, given it doesnt taste like the other Pinkberry’s. If your a crackberry addict, and addicted to that tartness it might be a few more weeks till they get it right. We’ll go back in a few weeks (Yeah right, we’ll probably be there this weekend) to check up on that tartness and report back.

Apologies for the grainy off white balance photo, as we all know they don’t allow photography. So I had to improvise and pretend I was texting and use my camera phone to capture this for you guys. To sum it up, this newest Pinkberry did not disappoint as the decor and Froyo is up to par.

The Crowd
Your typical Froyo fanatic crowd were all enjoying there deserts in the store. Everyone looked like they had been to Pinkberry before, knowing exactly what to order. The store is spacious so its real easy to find yourself a seat on one of their funky benches or bar stools. All of us froyo-fanatics were there for one purpose, and one purpose only. We were kind of amazed at how busy the store was given it was a Tuesday evening. Just be prepared to wait when its the weekend for your Froyo fix.
