Dance With Yogo

Location
Eagle Rock. LA California. A neighborhood that gets its name from a huge ‘eagle’-like gigantic rock - must have promising food. And they do. This tiny neighborhood is slowly coming up as a social and charismatic place to hang out. Offering a variety of small hot-spots, Eagle Rock is a nice place to escape from the hustle and bustle of LA. You can picture locals enjoying a cup of joe at a trendy little NON-starbucks coffee-shop. Our latest review captures yet another frozen yogurt spot - called Dance with Yogo, in the Eagle Rock mall.

To dance or not to dance, that is the question.
The concept behind Dance with Yogo is brilliant. Let the customers choose their flavor of yogurt, their desired topping, and only charge them for the weight of their yogurt plus 79 cents for each topping they desire. In this day and age, it’s all about customization and user-preference. Please the customer, and they will come.

Of course, if the product behind the concept isn’t as strong as the concept itself, that’s where the questionable to dance or not to dance question evolves.

Dance
Unlike Pinkberry or other popular similar yogurts, Dance with Yogo offers multiple flavors, from vanilla, strawberry, banana, green tea, unusual types such as irish mint, blueberrry, or chocolate. This is refreshing because it leaves you the option of whatever you’re in the mood for. Toppings are also a-plenty, you’ve got a variety of nuts, chocolate chips, fruits, cereal, and jellies, staring back at you.

Not to Dance
Unfortunately, again while the concept and variety is a strength of Dance with Yogo, we’re obliged to give you our honest opinion here on Froyomind - we’re openminded and polite, yet we can’t give false hopes or sugarcoat things.

Dance with Yogo unfortunately did not meet up to our standards of what we consider yogurt worth craving. On a hot day, I can see Dance with Yogo providing temporary satisfaction. It’s cool, it melts, and some of the fruity flavors might dance on your tastebuds. However, don’t expect too much. I often feel quality is more important than quantity, and while they provide a wide array of flavors, they falter with the quality of their yogurt. The end result: Their yogurt lacked creaminess, was more like a sorbet, and was so chock-full of sugar, it’s easy to see that they are not trying to compete in the same league as pinkberry or fiore. Unfortunately, presentation and decor is also key, and they also lacked in this field. The presentation of the fruit toppings was hollow, the berries lacked color, and looked like they had been defrosted and sitting out there for a long time. The cereal had a generic look to them, and even the nuts lacked eye-appeal.

There’s a lot of room for improvement. And it’s true, you can’t expect love them all. The concept was brilliant, but the product follow-through was disappointing. The price is a little more enticing, since they charge by weight, it comes out to be less cheaper than Pinkberry. But again, sometimes you do pay for what you get, and if you want delicious yogurt, I’d personally much rather wait in line for Pinkberry or Fiore.
