Beach Cities Yogurt & Gelato - Huntington Beach, CA

Posted on Saturday 21 July 2007

We were actually tipped off to this frozen yogurt place by ChubbyPanda’s blog and had to check it out. If you didn’t know this place existed then you would probably end up driving by it and miss out. But were here to shed some light into this spot.

Their located at:

16895 Beach Blvd
Huntington Beach, CA 92647
714.841.3868

The key to finding this place is to look for the red Lotus Chinese restaurant sign and turn into the plaza immediately after it. You can also look for this banner to find the place as well:

To our surprise this was a help yourself frozen yogurt establishment that also serves gelato. Their frozen yogurt is weighed and you will end up paying thirty cents an ounce for all the frozen goodness and toppings that you have piled on.

They offer the following flavors of frozen yogurt:
French Vanilla (No Sugar Added)
Chocolate (No Sugar Added)
Raspberry Peach (No Sugar Added)
Peach Prelude
Peanut Butter
Irish Mint
Cookies and Cream
Plain Tart

I tried samples of the Chocolate, Irish Mint, and Cookies and Cream. All three of them tasted pretty good if you like your yogurt sweet, I’m a traditionalist and stick with my plain tart so that could be saying something. None of the three tart flavors exhibited any tartness however so if your looking for the best of sweet and tart those probably won’t do it for you.

After we filled our cups up with our plain tart, to the left are all the toppings. With your typical dried toppings (cereal, nuts, cookies, candies) and a chilling station that housed all of the fruits. They even offered hot fudge if that’s what you want on top of your frozen yogurt. There was a sign that said mochi is available at the register. Lifting my disappointed I headed over to the register and asked for some mochi and she ran back and got some. An interesting note here is that they keep their mochi refrigerated, I generally like my things cold but this didn’t work out to well. The fridge chilled the mochi and made them somewhat hard and touch. What was interesting was that they mad multi colored mochi with regular white, green, and pink ones thrown in. They all tasted the same though.

I ended up with just raspberries and mochi in my cup as a sample. The fruit was fresh and tangy just the way I like it. The mochi like which I stated earlier was hard and a little over chewy and this is because of the refrigeration. The frozen yogurt itself was not too sweet, the hint of tartness was there. There was a slight taste of powder in the frozen yogurt itself. But the consistency and creaminess was right on in my book. Its not bad if you ask me, but not on par with Cefiore, Red Mango, or Pinkberry. But hey, I’m not complaining because they are literally down the street from me whenever I need my frozen yogurt fix. My frozen yogurt with raspberries and mochi came out to two bucks even!

The store itself is very spacious with plenty of indoor seating and even some chairs if you prefer to sit outside and watch the traffic whiz by on Beach Blvd.

The owners were very friendly, they offered us samples of their gelato which we were too full to try. We even got a frequent frozen yogurt buyers card, and for just buying one cup of frozen yogurt they punched it three on the card for us. Which was really nice of them.
