90210. You won’t find “Brandon, Brenda, Kelly, Donna, Dylan,David, Steve, Andrea” hanging out in these neck of the woods anymore, but you can find frozen yogurt. Yup, right in the heart of Beverly Hills.

It’s a calm, cool evening in this part of LA… no signs of celebrities tonight, but there’s always time and room for frozen yogurt.

The store is clean and semi-inviting, it’s a little tough to spot from the street, especially since there’s construction nearby. The decor isn’t as bold or eye-catching as the Pinkberries or the Ce Fiore’s of the world, but simple. If you want, you can bring your yogurt outside and enjoy the pleasant evening outside on their cozy patio.

So on to the menu:

Choose from 5 of their yogurt flavors:
itailian tart, mango, chocolate, sour cherry , pomegranate.

whichever size/price you prefer:

Small 295 375 459
Med 395 475 495
Large 595 675 750

and be sure to add on your favorite toppings. I fancied the topping showcase, as soft blue lights lit up each stainless steel bowl. Sno:la boasts +35 kinds of toppings as listed on their menu:

Sour cherry sauce
Chocolate sauce
Mango sauce
Flacky waffers
Hazelnut streusel
Chocolate chips
Organic chocolate chip cookies
Oreo cookie crumbs
Roasted almond brittle
Graham cracker crumbs
Chopped pistachios
Organic granola
Sliced almonds
Nato de cocoa
Sesame flaxseed brittle
Aloe
Organic gummy
Crystalized
Mochi
Strawberry, blueberry, blackberry, raspberry, mango, pinapple,
cantalope, nectarine, watermelon, banana, fresh berry mix, fresh
tropical mix.

This mochi-fan was excited to witness 2 different kinds of mochi here. They offer plain, which is pretty standard at most frozen yogurt stores, and red-green colored mochi which are strawberry-green tea flavored. The mochi is what makes or breaks the deal for many. So how did this mochi stand up to the test? Honestly, it wasn’t as impressive as I had hoped. The mochi wasn’t as chewy as most I’ve come across; these were a little tender and square in shape. The texture wasn’t bad, but the flavor was a little disappointing. Something about the mochi wasn’t doing it for me.

sno:la prides itself on the whole ‘fresh’ and ‘organic’ concept - which might factor into the unusually tart, slightly chalky, and icy consistency. Ryan Seacrest once mentioned on air that he wished Pinkberry would offer chocolate as one of their flavors. Well, Ryan, sno:la has the answer. Their chocolate was light, not bitter, although I’m not a huge chocolate fan, so I can’t really give it a fair rating. The pomegranate was quite tart and sour, and definitely more of an acquired taste. I braved half pomegranate and half plain tart to wake up my senses.

The fruit looked very appealing, everything was cut up nicely, and looked good enough to eat on its own. I was tempted to try cantaloupe and nectarine. They also offer nato de cocoa - which is like a gelatin-like dessert topping, something I haven’t seen at any other stores.

I always praise frozen yogurt stores which try something a little different than others… Sno:la serves their frozen yogurt in paper-based bowls, and wooden spoons. It’s an interesting concept, but it’s a bit of a catch-22… wood may be biodegradable, but it does require more trees.

Good service always gets a thumbs up from me, so kudos to the pleasant faces behind the counter here.

Overall, the concept driving sno:la is a good effort, they were thoughtful about presentation, health-consciousness, and look and feel, but something about the flavor just didn’t hit the spot. Of course, there’s always a saying about to each his own, so I wouldn’t rule it out if you are in the area. Give it a spin, and let us know what you think!
