Red Mango - Irvine, CA

Posted on Friday 16 November 2007

As a budding city in Orange Country, Irvine is slowly turning into more than just the safest place to raise your kids. This is a city constantly undergoing development and expanding both residentially and commercially. It’s fitting that a frozen yogurt store has sprouted this side of town. And we continue to keep you updated with the latest and greatest - Froyomind reports straight from the commotion of this grand opening Friday.

Right off the Jamboree exit, nestled in a large plaza filled with other life necessities, you can find the newest Red Mango among your local income tax office, Pacific Mail, and fellow indulgences Jamba Juice and Coffee Bean. The location is on par, who wouldn’t want a Red Mango after a trip to Ralphs?

Free yogurt to celebrate their grand opening has become tradition for Red Mango - tonight we saw plenty of cheerful faces enjoying 1 free Red Mango yogurt with 1 free topping. Behind the counter jolly workers dished out yogurt after yogurt, and a photographer captured each moment. The store is not the largest, but their booths are fairly large for your seating pleasure. I couldn’t help but study the nutritional facts along the wall that simply reminds you that something this good can actually be healthy for you.

Today this Froyomind staffer took pleasure in enjoying the evening with a little bit of green tea and blackberries, nothing red nor mango about my selection. I commend Red Mango for perfecting the flavor of their frozen yogurt -and for doing something right for their consumers.

We wanted to get an inside scoop on how Red Mango feels about heightened frozen yogurt competition. In light of recent investments, such as the Maveron investment in Pinkberry, our sources at Red Mango states this is “solid validation of the recent resurgence of the frozen yogurt industry, and its sustainability and growth potential… ” and assures us that “Red Mango will continue to develop its aggressive growth strategy by focusing on high quality products that our customers love, and offering a retail environment that will allow our customers to relax and enjoy the company of their friends over healthy and delicious frozen yogurt.”

Cheers to that!

Head over to Irvine and give your tastebuds a tease if you haven’t yet. Let us know what your favorite flavor/topping combination is. (I’m kicking myself wondering why I strayed from the usual mochi.)

Be grateful.. the mochi wasn’t that great that night… I tried it and it was wayyy too gummy… The strawberries were awesome though, but not the mochi.

I will boycott red mango froyo chain. Their yogurt taste the same as other stores, but their prices are waaay higher (for the amount they give you). I gave them the benefit of the doubt, but after several visits, they consistently rip off their customers by barely filling the tub that you order. They leave large air holes in the middle and barely fill the tubs to half full, despite telling them you don’t want toppings….I complained, but their lame employee said it was their policy. I guest in this economy, they need to rip off their customers for maximum profit.
