At Froyomind we scour the nation for all frozen yogurt - big, small, fruity, tarty, smooth, rich, healthy, creamy, topping-filled, bare, tasty, you name it. And while we love our usual hot spots like Red Mango and CE Fiore, we still have to give the little shops a try.
Next stop:
Fruberry

The thing about the Gaslamp district of San Diego, is you can always find little mom&pop nestled boutiques for urban wear, and a new bar popping up every now and again. It’s a great place to shop, eat, and one of the cozier downtowns to visit.
In this underground type of atmosphere, lies a brightly lit frozen yogurt spot called Fruberry.

The sign caught our eyes first - the rest of the street is fairly dim, and next thing you know, BAM, yogurt anyone?
Taste test: We spied 4 different flavors with our eye, including plain tart, green apple, and cheesecake.

Verdict? To be honest, the green apple was a little unusual, it was a little more artificial than I had hoped. And the cheesecake was nothing reminiscent of cheesecake. The plain would probably be your best bet - plain = safe. Unfortunately even the plain was not quite as refreshing as our usual suspects. It left somewhat of an aftertaste and unfortunately did not fare highest in my rankings.
While the yogurt did not leave me gratified, the service was thoroughly amiable. I was warned beforehand that the cereal wasn’t as fresh since it was the last of the bunch, and given a discount - free topping, on the house. Prices are fair. You can do yourself a decent sized small for $2.50. Although it did leave me wondering, why they still left out toppings that were no longer as fresh. I do appreciate honesty - although I don’t enjoy stale Cap’n Crunch.
But thumbs up for such a snazzy looking store.

Again, San Diego seems to know what’s up with decor, it’s overly modern, redefining white almost as Apple did when they first launched. You can sit in any of the multitude of nifty bar-style chairs which look like they’ve been confiscated from outerspace. As you step up to make your selection, notice a beautiful big screen TV staring back at you. And being somewhat of an audiophile, I peered up to glance at a ceiling decked out with Bose speakers. It’s definitely a cut above the rest in terms of look and feel.
Despite an impressive layout and interior design, I still found the yogurt less to my liking, and therefore will have to leave this one alone. If you’re in Gaslamp hanging out and have a hankering for yogurt, the store might lure you in.
