South Bay goers, rejoice. We’ve always wondered when more contenders would set up shop in and around Torrance - a city that is clearly blessed by warm California sunshine and some of the best Japanese food around.

And now, some Cali Yogurt!
Cali Yogurt
2730 Crenshaw Blvd Ste F
Torrance, CA 90501

Our froyo find of the day is nestled in a clean new plaza fairly close to Torrance’s own Wilson Park. It’s neighbored by a dental office and a hair salon, with Quizno’s and J.J. Bakery closeby.
Walking into Cali Yogurt, you are overwhelmed with a clean white feel - almost very modern and “Apple”-esque. The walls are paneled with white ‘waves’ and the floor is constructed of faux-pebbles. The clean feel of the store compliments the clean presentation of their yogurt and toppings.
So enough of the ambiance, on to the eats. 2, yes, there are only 2 flavors offered at Cali. Plain is available year-round, and the second flavor, we are informed by the server, is changed on a daily basis.
Today, maybe we lucked out, but the flavor happened to be mango, and met my seal of taste approval. I normally dread the fruitier flavors for fear of artificial powdery over-sugary results - but the mango here seemed to greet my tastebuds with a subtle hello.
The plain is always tricky. It’s not often you can find the right plain to satisfy your needs. And although, I commend them for getting the texture almost to a tea - a nice creamy and frothy consistency - the flavor itself is a bit of hit or in this case more so miss. While I didn’t mind the lack of flavor on their plain, Spoon didn’t dig the plain at all. True to Spoon’s point, just as Simon would critique singers, there was nothing memorable about this plain froyo.
The toppings were plentiful, many of the smaller froyo shops we’ve been to definitely stock up on a wider variety. Beyond your traditional fruits and dried candies and nuts, the kids’ favorite here are the “gummy worms”, as three children chimed in that they would like extra gummy worms. I regret not trying the gummy worms myself - but had my share of mochi, white chocolate chips, and strawberries.
The mochi was standard, nothing extraordinary, but the good news is they had them! Froyo is always more enjoyable with tender-chewy-fluffy-bits-of
Pricing: Small $2.95, medium $3.50, and large for $4.50.
With three toppings medium: $4.95 and large: $5.95
each additional topping is 75 cents.
Pros: Now you can get your froyo fix in the South Bay. The seating is cozy but abundant with 8 mini tables and comfy suede couches, and some outdoor seating for sunny days.
Cons: Only 2 flavors to choose from, and with a new flavor everyday, you could be in for a surprise. The way the store is set up, lining up could get tricky as the register is placed in a narrow corner.
Other than yogurt: Tempting options include fresh fruit and vegetable juice like orange, carrot, and kiwi at a pricey $4.25. Fresh fruit yogurt smoothie for $4.95. And fresh fruit slushee (peach, pineapple, strawberry, mango, mixed berry) for $4.50. And if I was an extreme health-nut, I would definitely try the wheatgrass shot, $1.50.
