Do we really care whether or not the frozen yogurt served at the plethora of shops in Southern California is actually frozen yogurt? Pinkberry was slapped with a lawsuit when someone found out that their frozen yogurt was made on site. To be ‘officially’ considered frozen yogurt, it has to be mixed at a dairy and then transported to the store.
Pinkberry officially obtained their certification by the National Yogurt Association (NYA), who followed after Red Mango that was certified last year. To be honest, we didn’t even know that there was an NYA when we first started this blog on frozen yogurt.
In this day and age we are all contentious about what goes into our bodies. But when you walk into a frozen yogurt shop does it really matter that it’s not real ‘official’ frozen yogurt? Does the end consumer really care when all they are looking for is a tasty treat? We know many a shop who mix their frozen yogurt from a powder and they taste just as good as some of the big guys. But they don’t have to list their ingredients or suffer from lawsuits.
it is frozen yogurt though they have the NYA seal
