Funnies - San Diego, CA (Point Loma)

It’s not funny ha-ha, or funny hee-hee, but it’s Funnies Frozen Yogurt!
If you’re hanging out near the Sports Arena in San Diego, stop by this quirky, laid-back, sort-of-hidden froyo joint in the Point Loma area:

3960 W. Point Loma Blvd
San Diego, CA 92110

I’ve heard this froyo joint has been around for years - before the dawn of this recent froyo craze. So it’s definitely not like the newer Ce Fiore’s or the Red Mangos or the Pinkberrys. It’s what I would call, the old school, and sometimes you do appreciate things that take you back.

Step in the store and absorb the kid-like atmosphere, colors, colors everywhere, and yet something about the place gives it so much character you can’t resist studying the walls.

It’s almost reminiscent of those cute old cartoons when you go watch movies, like the jolly bucket of popcorn and soda pop that walk out to the lobby hand in hand. But this is more like a fun captivating cityscape. Kids young and old, can enjoy this type of ambiance while enjoying your froyo.

Funnies offers a range of flavors that include black cherry, chocolate, vanilla, among others, a lot of the traditional flavors you remember from the old days of frozen yogurt. If you’re a picky yogurt eater and totally enamored with the Pinkberries, Red Mangos, and Ce Fiore’s of today, then I don’t think you will get the same type of yogurt here.

Nevertheless, the froyo was enjoyable for me as a nice way to cap off a good meal, and I especially dug the smaller “kids” size cup which is a perfect portion for a smaller appetite or just a bite after eating a heavier meal. They offer a small selection of toppings as well, from nuts to candies, if you want to take your froyo for a spin. Again, it’s definitely a different feel to the froyo, it’s more traditional than trendy. So if you’re gung-ho about your favorite froyo already, don’t go here expecting spectacular - it is what it is, and that’s just old school frozen yogurt.
