In suburbia of LA, also known as Glendale, you may be surprised to find five yogurt stores, and counting.
Today’s stop: Yogiyo.
818 N Pacific Ave #H
Glendale, CA

It’s a tiny froyo joint in a compact plaza that hosts a number of Korean businesses, including small restaurants. But their logo and name makes it clear to see what they sell. If you want a hint, it has nothing to do with Yogi Bear.

Their sign proudly displays a grand opening, as far as we understand, they’ve only been open a couple of months. It’s a new one, folks, so let’s try it out.

The decor for yogurt stores always trends towards the contemporary, modern, art-deco style, a lot of bright colors, funky-shaped chairs and use of cool lighting.

Even though the store is on the smaller side, there is tight, ample seating indoors. I can’t decide whether I am fond of the texture of the walls, or if they remind me of oversized Braille.

Their menu is simple - you can see prices are fairly competitive. I have yet to find the world’s cheapest froyo, or you truly get what you pay for. Frozen yogurt on average will cost you around $3-$5, no matter where you go, whether it’s self-serve or served to you. The froyo here is served to you, but a small froyo is not skimpy, they pile it up for you, and charge you by the topping. (.95 cents each, or go with the magic number of 3 toppings to save you $1.40) They offer 5 flavors ranging from plain to mango, encourage you to sample the flavor before you choose your winner. You never know, it just might not be what you are expecting.

Their toppings appear fresh and well-kept, they range from the standards nuts, fruits, cereals, and looks like good old chocolate syrup. We also spied crushed candied toppings like, Butterfinger. And here’s what we went with: Raspberry +gummi bears + fruity pebbles.

While the pink grapefruit was new to me, and interesting in flavor, I was not brave enough to go with a whole cup full. The workers here are friendly and suggested raspberry- which was refreshing because it wasn’t chock full of sugar, and it didn’t leave a whole lot of aftertaste. I’ve heard otherwise about their plain.
The consistency of the froyo was a little on the softer side. It seemed to melt a tad quicker. The gummi bears are always a nice touch, but most will know gummi bears always get a little hard when cold. And you can never go wrong with Fruity pebbles.
So while Yogiyo may not be the Eureka of froyo, it isn’t bad. It’s nice to know if you’re taking a break from Hollywood or LA, and just want the convenience of yogurt minus the hustle and bustle, you have options.
